BIOGRAPHY
Alex was born in Manchester, England on 13th September, 1994. He led an ordinary life as a normal schoolboy until the day that casting directors showed up at his school in Cheshire, looking for boys to audition for a lead role in
a new film by Danny Boyle. Alex remembers the day vividly and it was there that he met Danny Boyle whose first impression of Alex was golden. Said Boyle, "That's him; I'll bet that's him." Yet, in spite of the director's instincts, Alex still had to impress the crew with his acting potential. And after several months and seven auditions, Alex got the call while he was in school. In fact, his headmistress called him to the front of class with a special announcement: "Children, you are looking at a film star."
The film was of course
Millions, a heartwarming tale about two boys who end up with a suitcase full of cash only weeks before the British Pound is retired, facing them with the dilema of what to do with it. Alex stars as
Damien, a thoughtful, sensitive boy with a somewhat peculiar interest in religious saints. Alex recieved much critical acclaim for his fantastic performance and was nominated for three awards at the Saturn Awards, British Independent Film Awards and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards.
Alex recently completed filming in New Zealand for a new movie,
The Waterhorse: Legend of the Deep, based on the book by Dick King-Smith that tells the story of a lonley boy who disocvers a mysterious egg that hatches a sea creature of Scottish legend. The film is currently in post-production and is scheduled for release later in the year. Alex plays the lead role of
Angus MacMorrow and had to master a Scottish accent for the film.
When not busy acting, Alex enjoys a variety of activites such as cricket and swimming, and supporting his favourite football team, Manchester United.
